Free legal help for seniors offered at Rusk library

RUSK – Free legal help for senior citizens will be offered through the end of the year at Singletary Memorial Library, 207 E 6th St, beginning Monday, Oct. 4.

Lone Star Legal aid will offer legal services to seniors ages 60 and over, as part of its the Justice for Older Adults program. An attorney and paralegal be on site from from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Monday to answer questions on a variety of subjects, including divorce, protection orders and creating trusts.

“Our intention, depending on local response, is to provide off-site office hours on a monthly basis where people age 60 and over with a legal need can talk with an attorney and/or paralegal about their legal need, in person, and we can determine if we can provide them with legal services,” said Lone Star Legal communications director Clarissa Ayala.

The Justice for Older Adults is a new program offered by the organization, and is being offered for the first time in Rusk, she added.

Additional dates at the Rusk library are Nov. 8 and Dec. 6, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. each day.
