A funeral service for Orren Haskell (Trey) Bowling, III, 50, of Rusk, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at First Baptist Church in Rusk. The service will be under the direction of Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home with Pastor Jan Michael Pate officiating. Burial will follow at Walkers Chapel Cemetery, Reklaw.

Born on December 31, 1970, in Rusk, Texas, Trey was the adored son of Sharon Jenkins Bowling and the late Orren Haskell Bowling, Jr. Through his childhood, Sharon referred to him as “Trey Trey”. The name stuck around throughout his life because it so perfectly matched his handsome looks, charming smile, big blue eyes, and fun-loving personality. He graduated from Rusk High School in 1989, and continued his education at Stephen F. Austin State University where he was a member of Theta Chi fraternity. Trey co-owned and operated East Texas Auto in Rusk. His favorite cars to buy were those for his three girls. Most recently, he beamed with pride as he pulled up with Annie Elizabeth’s first cars, her Little Tykes Cozy Coupe and her hot pink Mercedes ride-on.

Trey became a girl-dad in the early nineties, and from that point forward his life revolved around two beautiful blonde-headed little girls. One of his favorite girl-dad roles was that of softball coach. He cherished those memories, and in September, even posted a warning to young parents at how quickly those times pass with your children. It’s as if he would have loved a chance to redo the girls’ childhood at a slower pace to soak it all in again. He could not have been more proud of his girls in the most recent years though. He gained the name Aggie Dad watching them both cross the stage at college graduation and walking them both down the aisle on their most gorgeous days gaining yet another name, father-in-law. His newest name, PawPaw might just take the cake. Another name he treasured was Uncle Trey being a very proud boy-uncle.

Trey was a friend to many, a smile that brightened a room, a helper to anyone in need, and the biggest Tom Brady fan you could ever know. He referred to him as the GOAT and would love a chance to defend that claim with anyone that challenged it. He was a lover of sports, playing golf, coaching softball, and watching all levels of football.

Trey is preceded in death by his father and nephew, Parker Covington.

Trey is survived by his mother; daughters and sons-in-law, Alison and Brent Jones of Bullard, Juliann and Jacob Cheatham of Dallas; granddaughter, Annie Elizabeth Jones; nephew that he considered a son, Caleb Ferrara; sisters, Sharla Covington, Shana Ferrara and husband Ken; nephews, Conner Covington, Carter Hutchison, and Gregory Ferrara.

Pallbearers are Brent Jones, Jacob Cheatham, Caleb Ferrara, Trey Devereaux, Carter Hutchison, Tyler Baker, Conner Covington, Gregory Ferrara, Jake Ocker, and Steven Norton.

Donations may be made to the Rusk Tree of Promise, specifically for the Dream Tree, P.O. Box 605, Rusk, Texas 75785. He had the biggest heart and got so much joy from giving to others, especially at Christmas. His daughters wish that you would continue his legacy by paying it forward.
