Raul Martinez, Jr. (77)

Raul Martinez, Jr., age 77, of Rusk, Texas, passed away on July 18, 2021.

Raul was born in Laredo, Texas on February 19, 1944. He earned his Registered Pharmacist License from the University of Houston in 1967.

He was married to Janis Nicholson Martinez for 39 years, 11 months and 13 days. Raul was a Gideon with Gideons International.

He is survived by his wife, Janis Nicholson Martinez of Rusk; his son, Raul T. Martinez, (children, Adrian and Adam); his step-son Jeff Hernandez (Martha); his step-daughter, Holly Rountree (Burgess) and children, Emma, Isabella and Colin; a brother, Ricardo Martinez; and two sisters, Mary Lou Hopkins (John), and Rose Marie Byas (Alan). He had 6 nieces and nephews.

Raul was preceded in death by his parents Raul and Aurora Martinez, Sr.

In his final act of love, Raul is donating his body to UT Southwestern Medical Center Willed Body Donation Program so that others may learn from him and help save the lives of others. Donations in his memory can be made to Gideons International, Texas Oncology, or Hospice of East Texas. A Celebration of Life Memorial for East Texas friends and family will be held at Memorial Missionary Baptist Church located at 927 Crockett St, in Rusk, TX on Saturday, July 24th from 2-4 pm.
