Nonprofit roundtable, grant-writing camp offered this month in Cherokee County

by Staff reports

Two events geared toward helping nonprofit agencies prepare for grant-writing will be offered this month in Cherokee County.

On Friday, May 14, a free nonprofit professional virtual roundtable will be held from 11 a.m. to noon. Organizers will learn about each participating group’s mission, while establishing a network of contacts among participants.

The event also provides resources beneficial to nonprofit organizations; those who wish to take part in a two-day grant-writing camp will receive a discount on registration fees.

"Roundtables are for specific county nonprofits, but the two-day trainings are open to any nonprofit in East TX," said presenter Pam Anderson, a nonprofit mentor at the Jacksonville-based Compacity.

Anderson said between the COVID pandemic and nonprofits having to adjust their income, organizers wrote a grant to help kickstart the project.

The goal, she said, is for nonprofit organizations "to learn new or hone existing grant skills to access COVID-related resources and other funding.

Upon registration at https://uwsmithcounty.org/events/nonprofit-professional-virtual-roundtable-cherokee-county-2/ participants will receive a Zoom link approximately 24 hours prior to the scheduled start of the virtual roundtable.

To receive the discounted offer for the two-day grant camp, email turias@uwtyler.org after signing up for the May 14 roundtable.

The two-day grant-writing intensive camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.. daily, Thursday and Friday, May 20-21, at Jacksonville College, 105 B.J. Albritton Dr.

Lunch is provided both days for the $75 camp, which will be hosted by the East Texas Center for Nonprofits and presented by Anderson.
