Inclement weather on tap for East Texas Saturday afternoon
CHEROKEE COUNTY – Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to develop in northeast Texas this afternoon – including in Cherokee County and surrounding areas – bringing with them the possibility of large hail and tornadoes, according to National Weather Service – Shreveport.
“Storms are forecast to congeal into a line by this evening and move southeastward across the remainder of the evening and into the overnight hours, with damaging winds becoming more of a threat,” according to a NWS report issued at 3:58 a.m. Saturday. “The severe weather threat is expected to diminish towards sunrise Sunday.”
Meanwhile, “a few lingering thunderstorms will be possible across north
central Louisiana and Deep East Texas on Sunday, but should move east and south of these areas by late morning,” the site noted, adding that a cold front may bring additional thunderstorms to the region by mid-week. No severe storms are expected at this time.
