Area churches are invited to publish their announcements for upcoming events each week in The Cherokeean Herald. Information must be submitted by noon Friday for our Wednesday edition. The congregation at Maydelle Assembly of God is pleased to announce that the church continues to host Sunday morning services in compliance with CDC guidelines. All are invited to participate in Sunday School, beginning at 10 a.m., with morning worship at 11 a.m. The church is located at 316 U.S. Highway 84 West in Maydelle.

DURING LENT

St. John’s UMC of Jacksonville: Pastor Dale Jamerson posts Words of Life each day during Lent, 30 Days of Renewal on the church Facebook page. St. Johns, located at 2020 Beaumont St, has Sunday morning worship is 11:15 a.m.

Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church – at 1023 Corinth Rd. in Jacksonville – will host Stations of the Cross in English Fridays at 6 p.m., followed by Mass, adoration and confession, with Via Cruces recited in Spanish at 7:30 p.m.

MARCH 26

Our Lady of Sorrow Catholic Church, located at 1023 Corinth Rd. in Jacksonville, will host a Lenten fish fry from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 26, with dine in and carry out options available. Tickets are $10 adults and $6 children; plates include fried catfish, beans, coleslaw, French fries, macaroni & cheese, hush puppies and pudding. Proceeds benefit the church building fund.

MARCH 28

A community Palm Sunday Service sponsored by the Rusk Ministerial Alliance begins at 6:30 p.m.

Sunday, March 28 at First Baptist Church of Rusk, 372 E. 4th St. Pastor David Haines of River of Life Christian Center in Rusk is the guest speaker, with music lead by First Baptist Church. There will be no fellowship during the event due to COVID-19 caution.

MARCH 28 THROUGH APRIL 4

Trinity Episcopal Church of Jacksonville will host Holy Week services, led by the Very Reverend M.L. Agnew, March 28 through April 4. The week begins with a 10 a.m. Palm Sunday service featuring liturgy of the palms and Holy Eucha-rist. On Holy Thursday, Holy Eucharist and stripping of the altar begin at 6 p.m. On Good Friday, Stations of the Cross will be recited at noon; a 10 a.m. Easter service will include Holy Eucharist with flowering of the cross.

Bethlehem Lutheran Church, across from Palestine High School at 1515 S. Loop 256, starts off Holy Week 2021 by observing Passion Sunday on March 28 – a 9 a.m. Sunday School

Will be followed by Divine Service of Holy Communion at 10:15 a.m.

On April 1, a Maundy Thursday service begins at 7 p.m., while on Good Friday – April 2 – a Tenebrae service begins at 7 p.m.

APRIL 1-2

FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, RUSK, will hold its Maundy Thursday service on Thursday, April 1, at 6 p. m. Good Friday Service. The Seven Last Words of Christ will be recited at 6 p.m. Friday, April 2. The Lenten series “The Kingdom is like …,” which began Feb. 28, continues. The church is located at 255 S. Henderson St. in Rusk.

APRIL 1-4

Holy Week activities at Jacksonville’s Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church includes: Holy Thursday, April 1, 7 p.m. Mass of the Lord’s Supper, washing of feet and transfer of the Blessed Sacrament; Good Friday, April 2, 3 p.m. Stations of the Cross and Passion (English), 6 p.m. live Via Cruces y Pasíon (Spanish); Holy Saturday, April 3, 8 p.m. Easter vigil; Easter Sunday, April 4, liturgies at 9:30 a.m., noon and 1:30 p.m. The church is located at 1023 Corinth Rd. in Jacksonville.
