Natural gas odor in Jacksonville

by Staff reports

According to a Jacksonville ISD release, district officials have been in contact with Centerpoint Energy officials since early this morning regarding a prevalent smell of gas throughout town that appears to be concentrated around the local middle school and Fred Douglass Elementary campuses.

"We have been assured that no leak is involved, but is caused by an over-abundance of the chemical used to produce the odor in natural gas," said Grace Traylor, district public relations director.

"At this time, classes will proceed as planned," she said, noting that JISD and Centerpoint Energy officials will continue to monitor the situation throughout the day.
