Mary Doris Holcomb born Sept. 25, 1939, to George and Lela (Bishop) Carpenter, entered eternal life Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2020. She was 80 years old.

A graveside service was held Saturday, Aug. 8, 2020, at Shiloh Cemetery near Alto. Pastor John Black officiated. Services were under the direction of Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.

Mary Doris was a member of Rusk United Methodist Church and a member of the Cherokee Civic Theater. She was also an avid high school reunion coordinator.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, C.W. Carpenter and Joe Carpenter; and sisters, Del Brookshire Mayette and Bobbie Jean Cherry.

Left to cherish Mary Doris’ memory are her loving husband of 66 years, James Ernest Holcomb of Rusk; sons, Gregg Holcomb of Tennessee and Dr. Anthony Holcomb and wife Chris of Rusk; and sister, Billie Angel and husband Bob of Pearland. She is also survived by her grandchildren Ashley Bettis, Amy Holcomb, Aaron Holcomb, Andy Holcomb; great-grandchildren, Charlie, Molly and Bradley; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Honorary pallbearers were Aaron Holcomb, Andy Holcomb, Bob Cherry, George Alfred Brookshire, Jamie Carpenter, Barry Carpenter, Alva Joy Jones, Gloria Cumby, Jo Marie McCurdy, Paula Gilchrest, Dottie Norton, Mary Ann Tullis, John and Marie Ann Lang; and her classmates from Alto High School.
Rather than customary condolences, memorials may be given in memory of Mary Holcomb to the Cherokee Civic Theatre in Rusk.
