Commissioners met in an open court on Tuesday, May 26, for the first time since shutting down in March in response to the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

County staff at the north and south doors -- the only two that are open at this time -- are checking people’s temperatures and issuing masks to those that don’t have them prior to entering the courthouse.

Cherokee County Emergency Management Coordinator Sergio Servin also addressed the Court and updated the county’s confirmed COVID-19 cases to 44.

“Only four of those cases are residents of the county,” Servin said. “The rest are in the Rusk State Hospital. Of the four, two are well on their way to recovery.”
