April 28, 2020 – Rusk Cares-Good Samaritan and the East Texas Food Bank -- two nonprofit organizations devoted to fighting hunger and feeding hope in East Texas -- are teaming up to present an Emergency Food Distribution event, 9-11:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 13, at the Good Samaritan Food Pantry, 190 W. Second St., Rusk.

"Any person or family in need of food is invited to participate in the drive-through event to receive supplemental food," Good Sam President Mona Burford said. "This is a non-qualifying food program open to any person or family that has a need. Anyone is eligible."

All food distributions will be conducted using the vehicle drive through method with volunteers loading boxes and produce. The distribution line starts at Good Samaritan and vehicles are suggested to line up down Sycamore Avenue.

The Texas Army National Guard will be unhand to help load prepared boxes of food into vehicles driving through the distribution line. Traffic control will be provided by the city of Rusk and Good Samaritan volunteers.

A second Emergency Food Distribution event, also sponsored by the East Texas Food Bank, will be held 9-11:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 27, at the Good Samaritan Food Pantry.

In addition to the special Emergency Food Distribution dates in May, Good Samaritan organizers will also distribute its regular food boxes to clients and free produce to all from 9-11:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 6 and Wednesday, May 20.
