Graveside services for Sam Fowler, 86, of Rusk will be held at 3 p.m., Wednesday, March 11, 2020, at Antioch Cemetery in Carthage under the direction of Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home-Rusk with Pastor Samuel Dodd officiating.

Mr. Fowler passed away Friday, March 6, 2020. He was born in Carthage, Texas, on Jan. 5, 1934, to the late E.A. and Josie Fowler. He served in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1953 and was in the Korean War. He left the service to attend Kilgore Junior College and Bish Mathis Institute and began his watchmaking career. He retired after 50 years, closing Fowler’s Jewelry in Rusk.

In his spare time, he enjoyed building computers, researching genealogy with other family members, and watching old westerns. He loved being outdoors.

He is survived by his wife of almost 62 years, Helen Fowler of Rusk; children, Debra Austrum and her husband Eric of Round Rock and Sam Fowler Jr. and his wife Cindy of Round Rock; grandchildren, Ashley Molinar of Glendale, Ariz., Francisco Molinar of Glendale, Ariz., Destiny English of Phoenix, Ariz., Justin Fowler of Dallas, Ryan Fowler of Round Rock and Sadie Fowler of Round Rock; great-grandchildren, Bentley Sullivan of Phoenix, Ariz.; sister, Pat Bowden of Tenaha; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
