Wells’ annual clean-up day set

The city of Wells is offering the chance to help its residents do a little spring cleaning, free of charge.

The city of Wells will have dumpsters set up this weekend for its residents during the annual citywide spring clean-up, to help spruce up the town in preparation for the Wells’ annual homecoming event.

“I encourage all our residents to take advantage of this opportunity to get rid of their bulkier trash and help keep our city looking good,” City Secretary Melanie Pounds said. “It’s free and it’s for a good cause. Help show pride in our community.”

Dumpsters will be delivered behind Wells City Hall at the Depot parking area on Friday, March 6. Wells residents may bring trash Saturday, March 7 and Sunday, March 8.

Items NOT accepted are:

• liquids of any type (gas, paint, oil, antifreeze, etc.) -- paint cans will be accepted, only if any paint therein is dried (use kitty litter to dry leftover paint);

• oil filters;

• tires; and

•appliances containing CFCs (refrigerators/air conditioners, unless certified all Freon is drained).

Homecoming will be Saturday, April 4. Theme is ‘The Roaring 20s … Jazz it up in 2020.’ Homecoming will be Saturday, April 4.

“We are super excited to have several new members join our community homecoming this year,” event organizers reported on social media. “We are proud to welcome Clay Hathorn, Tony McKnight, Kelly Collins, Stacy McKnight, the Reyes family, Susie Edge and Kayla. Thanks so much.”

Three candidates are running for homecoming royalty this year -- Ira Reyes, Davion Stone and Alaynna Hellems.

These candidates will be selling chances on a television, a tablet and a total of $200 in gift certificates.

Events scheduled include a reception at Wells High School; activities, arts and crafts, food and more; a parade; fish supper; and the annual program and dance.
