Alto wins one, loses one

The Alto Yellowjackets dropped a game to Douglass, 52-40, Tuesday, Feb. 12.

After being down by five points at the half, 19-14, Alto was unable to mount a comeback.

Leading scorers for Alto were Skyler Atkins, Keithen Jenkins and Jay Pope with 10 points apiece.

Jerrion Skinner dropped in eight points and Clayton Terry added two.

On Friday, Feb. 17, the Jackets defeated the New Summerfield Hornets 79-35.

Alto outpaced New Summerfield 20-7 in the first period and had expanded their lead to 48-12 by the halftime break.

The Hornets reached double digits in both the third and final frame but fell short of Alto in each.

The Jackets sank 13 points to the Hornets 11 in the third quarter and scored 18 points to New Summerfield’s 12 in the fourth.

Jenkins was top scorer with 20 points, followed by Pope with 16 and Atkins with 15.

KurrinSai Jackson sank 11 points. Skinner and Taylor Bowman pitched in six points each.

Jackson Duplichain added three points and Terry, two.

Alto was to complete their district schedule at Cushing Tuesday, Feb. 18.

Troup scores two wins

The Troup Tigers hosted West Rusk, defeating the Raiders 48-25.

With just a two-point advantage, 12-10, following the first quarter, Troup increased their lead over the Raiders to 11 points at the half, 25-14.

The Tigers continued to dominate until the final buzzer, taking the win.

Clayton Vickers topped all scorers with 16 points.

He was followed by Kedrick Frazier with 11, including a three-pointer.

Bracey Cover had two treys and a total of eight points.

Matthew Castillo dropped in seven points, including a three-point shot.

Grayson Driggs totaled four points, including a trey.

Easton Haugeberg added two points.

The JV team also beat West Rusk, 31-24.

On Friday, Troup beat rival Arp by a score of 40-35. Troup jumped into the lead with 12 points over Arp’s six in the first quarter.

By the halftime break, Arp had gained the lead, 20-17. Troup rallied in the third period, ending the quarter 29-26.

With a slim two-point advantage in the fourth frame, Troup maintained the lead and earned the win.

Vickers again led team scoring with 13 points. Frazier, Castillo and Driggs followed with seven points each including one trey apiece.

Bracey Cover had a three-pointer and a total of four points.

Blake Wood pitched in two points.

The JV team fell to Arp, 36-32.

The Tigers carry a 10-3 district record, placing them second in District 16-3A standings, just behind Arp.

Troup was slated to complete their district schedule at Winona on Tuesday, Feb. 18.
