Troup aims for the top spot in district

With two wins last week against Harmony (62-29) and West Rusk (43-39), the Troup Tigers have bettered their district record to 4-1, just behind rival Arp (5-0), the team which holds the District 16-3A top spot. The team carries an overall record of 19-7.

In a 33-point victory over Harmony, Bracey Cover and Kedrick Frazier led all scorers with 15 points each. Grayson Driggs followed, sinking 11 points. Logan Womack and Easton Haugeberg dropped in eight points apiece. Matthew Castillo added three and Clayton Vickers, two.

The team hit a total of nine three-point shots to Harmony’s four. Cover again led the team, dropping in four treys. Womack sank two three-pointers while Castillo, Frazier and Driggs each earned a trey.

Traveling to West Rusk Friday, Jan. 17, the Tigers earned their most recent victory with a 43-39 win over the Raiders in overtime.

With the game tied at 34-all following regulation play, the two teams battled in overtime with Troup outscoring West Rusk, 9-5, in the period.

Frazier was high scorer with 14 points. Cover followed with 10 points, including two treys. Driggs sank eight points. Castillo and Womack each hit a three-point shot and had a total of five points each. Blake Wood added one point to the team total.

The Troup Tigers were to take on rival Arp Tuesday, Jan. 21, in a bid to tie their district record with the Arp Tigers, who carried a 5-0 record into the game.
