Lady ’Jackets open
district slate with win

The Alto Yellowjackets traveled to New Summerfield for their first district match of the season, defeating the Lady Hornets, 60-37.

Leading scorer for the Lady Jackets was Mya Tyra with 32 points. She also recorded nine assists and 10 steals.

Abbie Teutsch sank 22 points. Makayla Black and Maquela Jackson sank four points apiece. Black posted eight rebounds, three assists and two steals while Jackson recorded six boards.

The win gives the Lady Jackets a 1-0 district record and boosts their overall record to 16-10.

Alto was to play the Cushing Galkats on the road Tuesday, Jan. 14, and will visit Gary Friday, Jan. 17, with tip-off scheduled for 6 p.m.

Alto falls to Grapeland

Alto Yellowjackets fell to the Grapeland Sandies, 74-51, Tuesday, Jan. 7.

Outscored 23-16 in the first quarter, the Jackets proved themselves an even match in the second, scoring 15 points to the Sandies’ 14, resulting in a halftime deficit of 37-31. The third quarter belonged to Grapeland who scored 21 points over Alto’s four. Both teams shot 16 points in the final frame.

Skyler Atkins sank 18 points to lead the team scoring. Kurrin Sai Jackson dropped in 12 points, and Jay Pope, 11. Jerrion Skinner sank six points, while Jackson Duplichain and Keithen Jenkins added two apiece.

The Jackets were slated to visit Tyler Classical Academy Tuesday, Jan. 14, and will open the district schedule on the road at Gary Friday, Jan. 17. Games are scheduled for 5 and 7:30 p.m.

Rusk drops game to Gary

The Rusk Eagles hosted the Gary Bobcats Tuesday, Jan. 7. The game resulted in a 55-41 loss for the Eagles.

Rusk was down by a single point following the first quarter, 10-9; a deficit that expanded to 24-18 by the halftime break. Both teams sank 12 points in the third quarter, but the Eagles were not able to keep pace in the final frame as Gary outshot Rusk, 19-11.

Leading scorers for the Eagles were Jay’kwon Simms, who sank 18 points and recorded three steals, and Isiah Ward, who sank eight points and pulled down five rebounds.

The Rusk Eagles had open dates Friday, Jan. 10, and Tuesday, Jan. 14. Their next game will be the initial match of the conference schedule. The Eagles will host Madisonville with games at 5, 6:15 and 7:30 p.m.
