JPD Investigating Facebook Threat UPDATE

UPDATE: As of 2:00 p.m., the Jacksonville Police Department has confirmed that this online threat originated in the United Kingdom and is being investigated further and it is believed that threat or any information supporting any immediate threat.

The Jacksonville Police Department notified the JISD at 7:14 a.m. and alerted area law enforcement agencies by teletype at 8:22 a.m.

On Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2019 at approximately 6:12 a.m., the Jacksonville Police Department received a private message on the Department’s Facebook page issuing a threat to “shoot up every school and day care within a 30-mile radius then I’m coming for your officers.” Although the Jacksonville Police Department does not believe this to be a credible threat at this time, JPD has notified surrounding schools and law enforcement agencies, including the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The Jacksonville Police Department is actively working on identifying this Facebook profile.

As stated, JPD does not believe the threat to be credible, but schools and day cares should increase their situational awareness and security.
