The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has issued a “do not use water” notice to some Craft-Turney Water Supply customers.

Officials warn those under the alert to avoid using the water for any reason, including watering plants and bathing.

The service area affected includes the south side of Loop 456 on the north boundary, County Roads 1615 and 1616 (including US 69 South) on the west boundary, State Highway 204 on the east boundary, and FM 768 on the south boundary.

“We have a suspected contamination from an unknow source,” Water Supply Board President John Hawkins said Thursday. “We called in TCEQ, who are investigating what the potential contaminant and its source. They’ve sent five teams today to help in that investigation. Craft Turney water supply welcomes their assistance in getting to the bottom of this issue.”

The First United Methodist Church-Jacksonville has opened up its facilities to those affected by the do not use water notice for bathing and washing dishes between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Craft-Turney Water Supply is also offering bottled water to those customers in the affected areas, at the Craft Turney office, 505 Loop 456, Jacksonville.

Other people within the Craft Turney service area are not affected and there is no warning on their water. Water Supply customers are urged to call the office, (903) 586-9301, with questions.
