TEEA recognition

Cherokee County’s three TEEA clubs were recognized by county leaders, who recently issued a proclamation declaring Oct. 6-10 as TEEA Week. The Texas Extension Education Association – which began in 1912 as Tomato Clubs to provide rural women to meet and learn skills to improve their family and community – exists locally as the Central High Club (founded 95 years ago), the Ponta Club (93 years) and the Dogwood Patch Club (4 years). During their most recent club year, these clubs have contributed a total of 4,158 volunteer hours and $143,361.51 to Cherokee County communities in the form of scholarships, mileage, materials and cash. Member Daryl Chandler was recognized during this year’s state conference for completing more than 500 volunteer service hours to Cherokee County.
