Sonny Plunk, beloved father, friend and boss, was reunited with his wife on August 1, 2025.
A funeral service is scheduled for 2 p.m., Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at Autry Funeral Home in Jacksonville with Jeff Godwin officiating. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. He will be laid to rest at Resthaven Memorial Park.
Sonny was preceded in death by his loving wife of over 70 years, Joyce Ellen Plunk, one of the founding members of Anderson and Cherokee County Crisis Center; son, L.D. (Larry) Plunk; sisters, Patsy McLeroy and Diana Plunk and brothers, Bobby and George Plunk.
His love of automobiles brought him and his family to Jacksonville in 1967. He made lifelong friends with many people and he was loved and cherished by many.
Those remaining to cherish his loving memory are his daughter, Marsha Ellen Plunk of White Oak, (who was holding his hand when he took his last breath); sister, Floretta Hines of Emory; brother, Sam Plunk of Spring; daughter-in-law, Shari Plunk of Carrollton; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his special sons, Paul Laney and Mike Mason; special grandchildren Kandace Herring and Randie Bailey, Maria Balderas, Jasmine Nixon; many special family and friends at his home away from home at Bacon Family of Dealerships as well as many other GM Dealerships.
Pallbearers will be Paul Laney, Mike Mason, Bryson Bacon, Bayne Bacon, Trent Herring, Jerrod “Zig” Price, Tyler Vinson and David Westbrook. Honorary pallbearers are employees of Bacon Auto Country.
A special thank you to the Bacon family and employees for all of their love and support; and to his caretaker Sheri Shaw Yarborough for her care and kindness.
